Minimalist bronze sculpture / portrait / bust of a woman by Adam Antes

An exquisite original Art Deco period, stylized bronze sculpture of a woman with wavy hair in a medium brown patina. The stamped signature and the date "Antes 1922" is prominently displayed on the right side of the bust. The portrait composition primarily focuses on the front view, emphasizing the elongated beauty of the subject's face, reminiscent of figures often seen in works by Modigliani. This aesthetic approach, in the feeling of the Austrian, Jugendstil, Wiener Werkstätte, Secessionist, Bauhaus style, lends a sensual and uniquely alluring quality to the piece. The sculpture rests on its original marble base, presenting an impeccable presentation with a strong emphasis on the front-facing perspective yielding abstraction and functionalism. This bronze is a beautiful casting created by the sand casting method which can be seen in the concave back side. --------------------------------- 11 August 1891, 28 November 1984 German Adam Antes, a sculptor and graphic artist, tragically lost many of his works during the ravages of war in 1944. His artistic journey, which began in the 1930s, saw him creating numerous aircraft models that blended art and technology in the spirit of the Bauhaus movement. Post-war, he found his new home in Worms, Germany. In addition to his sculptural pursuits, he occasionally delved into graphic art. Antes' artistic foundation included training as a stonemason and a period of study at the Technical University of Darmstadt. It was during this time that he became a part of the artists' colony on the Mathildenhöhe, establishing his own studio. Notably, he was one of the founding members of the Darmstadt Secession. Among his closest companions were renowned German writer Carl Zuckmayer, with whom he maintained a deep correspondence, and Kasimir Edschmid, who facilitated his journey to Darmstadt, marking a significant chapter in Antes' artistic career.
